BALDWIN 700 SERIES

The Baldwin 700 series was introduced as an affordable range of semi-hollow bodied electrics desgined by James Ormston Burns. The bodies were made in Italy as were some of the hardware components, but the necks made in the UK or USA and final assembly was done in the USA.  The series included two six-string models - the 706 and 706V (with vibrato), a 12-string 712 model and the model 704 bass.

According to Baldwin's promotional flyer for the 700 series:

Baldwin's exciting guitars bring to the modern music world, the best sound around. Guitarists will like everything about a Baldwin. Pick it up and immediately you'll feel that a Baldwin has been designed for playing ease. Baldwin's new "700" series semi-acoustic models retain superior Baldwin quality, specially engineered pick-ups assure pure clean sound, hand-crafted neck is shaped to velvety perfection, exclusive 16-1 ratio geared truss rod for easy and accurate neck adjustment, positive geared encased machine heads, fully adjustable bridge, individual bridge saddles with fine adjustment and Baldwin guitars are life coated in beautiful polyester, the most durable finish in the guitar world.

BALDWIN 704 BASS

The Baldwin 704 MODEL BASS was made between 1967 and 1970. The 704 had an Italian made ES-335 style body, with the new style Baldwin neck. The double trapeze tailpiece has a Baldwin "B" on it. Pickups are 2 double polepiece units.

BALDWIN 706

Production of the 706 MODEL began in 1967 - possibly lasting a few more years.  Baldwin 700 (712 12 string, 706 6 string and 704 bass) series were 335 lookalikes (not close up), including "solid" centre block, bodies made by Crucianelli in Italy and necks made by Burns in London (early necks made in Italy too maybe).

BALDWIN 706V

Introduced around 1967 the Baldwin 706V has an ES-335-style thin-line hollowbody, the new design Baldwin neck (with flatter scroll headstock, bound fingerboard and equal sized triple-dots at the 12 fret), an adjustable bridge, and a Bigsby-style vibrato with string rollers and wooden inlay. The bodies and some components (vibrato & pickups?) were made in Italy but necks were made in the USA where the final assembly was also done. Finish was cherry red or sunburst.

BALDWIN 712 R

BALDWIN produced the 712R MODEL between 1967 and 1970. It's the 12 string version of the 706. At first glance the Italian made 712's pickups look like humbuckers, but despite their double pole-pieces they are single coils with a jangley 60s retro sound.

The tailpice has a "B" for Baldwin, and the pickguard also bears the Baldwin logo
