The Romanian Hora brand has been around since communist times in 1951. As well as producing numerous orchestral stringed instruments Hora make classical, acoustic and electric guitars. Hora produce budget instruments, the top of the range electric sells for around $270 (in 2008). There is a special workshop that produces professional quality orchestral instruments, but it is unclear whether they also produce high quality guitars.

HORA is Romania's largest exporter of musical instruments, exporting over 80% of its production output to countries such as: U.S.A., Canada, Germany, France, England, Italy, Spain, Israel, Denmark, and Japan.

The name Hora comes from a traditional Romanian folk dance where everyone gets into a big circle, holding hands while the circle spins clockwise. During the rotation  each dancer performs a sequence of three steps forward and one step back.
