Denny Zager founded Zager guitars in 1969. As part of the duo "Zager & Evans" Zager recorded “In The Year 2525,” the #1 song of 1969 and the biggest one-hit wonder so far. Zager began working on guitars in the late 1960's by setting up his own instruments to improve their playability. Zager introduced several features to make playing more comfortable including a low oval neck profile, lower frets, lower action, custom saddles and nuts. Current Zager models are imported and setup with low action and light strings - they are marketed with easy playability as their main selling point.
