I am a Short-Scale Bassist my 1959 P-Bass too big for me plus needed all new frets. Have a1976 MusicMaster Short-Scale bought new with original case used as main bass for years (never played anymore). Saw this stylish Medium Scale sitting on the wall at Arthurs Music Indianapolis for 2 years never wanting to pay list price and they never wanting to budge. During their "get rid of name brands and go cheapie market in February 1982 made a deal and finally snatched it up (for even though I had to buy a custom case for it for $162.50 + $6.50 tax = $169.00 and get this the special Gretsch case was $104.95 + $5.25 tax. plus a $6.00 item noted as "Repair" I have no collection of what that was all about = $116.20 for total cost of instumrnt and case + $285.20. I only saw ONE OTHER ONE had a red finish at a pawn shop 15-or-so years ago all beat up and scratched with no case - they wanted $500.00 for and wouldn't budge. I took a week to think about it (and get another paycheck) and it was gone. My original white pickguard was ugly so I had someone apply a quality type of gold contact paper type stuff for looks and still looks good. Around 20 years ago was walking by all the guitars in the Arizona room and thought I heard a crack. A few days later went to play it and a 2" crack had indeed developed in the back of the headstock. Took it to my luthier Thadeus who repaired it and guaranteed it for life. As a precaution keep it drop-tuned a whole step and have kept it and play it that way ever since and still holding stong. One of my all time favorite quality basses to play even though some jealous people rag on it as a "student model" I gueantee you it is a fine electric bass and they are practicall non-existant. And no it is not for sale sorry. To me it is priceless.
