Production of the JK50CE began in 1997. The Tacoma JK50C features a Gloss finish, Solid Spruce top, Solid flamed Koa back with laminate Koa sides, Ivoroid bound body, neck, and peghead, Maple inlaid curly Koa peghead overlay, Abalone fingerboard inlays, Rosewood fingerboard and "Tone Shaped" bridge and Slim neck with low shoulders for comfortable play.
The JK50CE2 has a Tacoma Tone Bar with fixed active preamp with piezo film pickup. The JK50CE4 has a Fishman Prefix Plus Active preamp with volume, notch, low, high, contour, brilliance, frequency and a phase switch paired with a piezo electric film pickup.
These Tacoma Guitars use "VS" bracing is a radical advance over traditional acoustic guitar bracing. Their "Tone Shaped" bridge is wide and flat on the bass side, and narrow and peaked on the treble side. Our solid Maple bridge plate is asymmetrical, and placed diagonally to enhance the dispersion patterns of our bridge design. Our matched bridge and bridge plate configuration balances the bass and treble. There are no sharp corners on the front edge of the bridge to concentrate stress on the top.

2014 | $780.00 | excellent | chris | Had one when they came out, and loved it. Unfortunately, I left it on a rocking chair and my two year old rocked it off and onto the floor snapping off the headstock. Had two professional luthiers try to reattach it, but is just so thin it's hard to get right. That's also part of why I liked it. The guitar is easy to play. I found the one I have now just this year, and it was perfect. The owner even loosened the strings every time after playing so it is like new. Both of my Tacoma's never had the Tacomaitis you hear about. Not even a hint of the lacquer lifting on mine. Maybe just lucky. Has the solid koa back, and koa veneered sides, and sounds great. If you can't afford a Taylor or Martin, and can find a decent Tacoma you'll be happy. |
2003 | $1400 | excellent | William Esborn | This instrument is in mint condition since it was received as a replacement for a 1990s model whose Koa sides had cracked. But the time is was replaced I was playing another instrument and rarely played at all the JK50C. It is serial number G 008 014 0 Thus according to Tacoma's serial codes was made on January 8th of 2003 the 14th guitar of the day and the 0 indicates it has never been serviced. The hard case has wear since it was part of the original purchase but the instrument has none as the replacement. |

This is an addendum to the above 2003 JK50C. This instrument is from the era of Koa solid backs and prior to Fender's takeover in 2004. The instrument is in mint condition and has a great tone and big voice even without the electronics.I paid $1350 plus tax for it and will entertain offers above $1200 plus shipping for this little played beauty. It is marked "Made in USA" and has no marring or pips in the finish. As noted above the case has wear since it was not replaced with the instrument. Again the serial # is G 008 014 0. I can make photos available.
