The 1962 50th Anniversary Epiphone Sorrento was a limited edition thinline archtop reissued in 2013 (1,962 were made). It was based on the original Sorrento first produced at the Gibson & Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1962, the same factory that produced the Gibson Les Paul Standard, Gibson SG, and the 335.
The 50th Anniversary "1962" Sorrento (model E452TDN) had a laminated maple top and body, a mahogany neck with a 1960s SlipTaper profile, a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, 20 medium jumbo frets, historically accurate binding and tortoise style pickguard, and Gibson USA mini-humbuckers. The Sorrento had a completely hollow archtop body.
The Tune-o-matic floating bridge had a rosewood bridge base with a reissue of the original classic Trapeze tailpiece. The Sorrento's electronics included CTS potentiometers, a ¼" non-rotating output jack, and gold TopHat controls to go along with Wilkinson Vintage Style machine heads with small buttons and a 14:1 tuning ratio. The dovewing headstock had a classic Epiphone metal logo badge with historically accurate blue rectangular Epiphone label. The "1962" Sorrento came with a period-correct hard case and a 1962 Collection Certificate of Authenticity. Finish options were Natural and Royal Olive.

2017 | $584.00 | new | This one hung on the wall of my local music store since 2013. Had played on and liked it and bought a used one first at Guitar Center. It had some issues so I took it back. Finally, remembered this one from years ago and it was still there. Brand new in perfect appearance and playing shape. The store tech just adjusted the neck a little checked intonation, and it's a great guitar. Not for everybody but I love the Gibson mini humbuckers on this fully hollow body guitar. Sounds a lot like 50's rockabilly, Chuck Berry, etc. Nice. | |
