The Fender Hot Rod P-Bass was an USA made precision bass sold between 1999 and 2001. It featued new pickups: a Hot-Vintage P-bass pick and an extra Hot-Vintage Jazz bass pickup. This additional Jazz bass pickup was the hot-rodded element of the design.
Fender also later released a similar model called the American Hot-Rodded Precision Bass. The earlier Hot Rod P-Bass had Schaller Strap buttons and locking strap whereas the newer Hot Rodded Precision has non-locking strap buttons. Also the newer Hot-Rodded model has a skunk stripe on the back of the neck while the initial Hot Rod P-Bass has no skunk stripe.

FENDER HOT ROD P-BASS reviewed by Anonymous

This bass is AWESOME it's got really good fit and finish to it. I've had this bass for 3 years now I've not once had to adjust the truss rod. The pickup has that classic fender tone to it,I've never heard the jazz pickup on mine,I bought the bass on reverb the jazz pickup wasn't hooked up so I took it out all together now it has that road worn look speaking of I'm not sure if Fender used poly finish on this applied thin or if it's a nitro finish but it DOES wear kinda like nitro, mines got a good wear spot where my arm touches it and a couple little ones at the bottom. I play this bass everyday some days over 5 hours if your interested in buying one of these DO IT!
