The Fender Black and Gold Telecaster (introduced in June 1981) was a regular Tele with maple or rosewood fingerboard but with extra cost custom black finish (including peghead) and 22kt gold plated hardware. Fender had launched a range of brass accessories the previous year, picking up on the retrofitting trend started by Schecter, and this guitar had one of their heavy brass strings-though bridges designed for extra sustain. For the first 7 months of production it had the 70s Telecaster body shape. This model was discontinued around 1983.
