The pink paisley and blue floral telecasters were Fender's response to the flower power, hippie aesthetic emerging in San Franciso. The basic guitars were maple fingerboard telecasters with fancy graphics painted on.

James Burton was often seen playing a pink paisley telecaster, and it became something of a trademark guitar for him. He was given it in 1969 and used it until 1990.
