Leland Sklar is a noted American session bass player, who started in the 1960s and is still going strong today.

Leland Sklar's Signature Bass was designed and built by Mike McGuire and the Gibson Custom Division. It was reminiscent of the Fender Precision Bass with a double cutaway maple body, and bolt-on maple neck with 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. The headstock has an unsusal bevel aroung the edge. The scalelength was 34 inches. This model had chrome hardware and two precision style EMG split-coil pickups, volume/blend/tone controls. It came in two colors: either ebony or sunburst. The bass had a D-tuner, allowing the bottom E string to be quickly dropped to a D.

The recommended retail price, when new, was over $2000. The picture is from Gibson's website, where you can also read an article about the bass.
