Production of the JOE PERRY SIGNATURE LES PAUL began in 1997 and ended in 1999. It had Joe Perry's signature on the body behind the bridge. It came in blackburst finish only with black chrome hardware. The bridge pickup was custom-wound to Perry's specifications and the guitar had an active mid-boost tone-shaping circuit, controlled by a push/pull pot, and a master tone control. The Gibson Joe Perry Les Paul was based on Perry's own early-1960 sunburst Les Paul Standard.
"I didn't do a lot to change what's already a great guitar," he said. "Obviously, the cosmetic changes are the most radical. The electronics idea came from a guy who worked on my guitars here in Boston. He took the guts out of a wah-wah pedal and put it in the bass pickup tone pot. When you pop the pot out, everything about the way the guitar is set up goes through that pot and gives you that wah-wah sound right in your guitar, so you can set the tone any way you want."
In 2004, this model was replaced by another Joe Perry signature Les Paul, the Joe Perry Boneyard Les Paul.

1997 | $1400 | new | Ray | This guitar is my most prized possession out of 28 guitars. It never fails to deliver. Now it is heavy as hell but it sings soooo good! |
1997 | $1779.75 | new | Weston Robins | Purchased this guitar in 1997 when I was fifteen. Traded my wine red Les Paul studio for it. Loved it and played it daily. Actually had a Roland GR-30 guitar synth mounted on it :) Unfortunately I pawned it for $500 when I was nineteen and in a dark place with addiction/ substance abuse. I am 35 now, been clean 12 yrs and on the hunt to get this baby back in my hands. Serial #90357344. Please reach out if you have any info on where it might be? |
