The Guild D-46 is a very unique and special guitar. Guild was perhaps the very first major American made manufacturer to produce an acoustic guitar with solid swamp ash for it's back and sides. With it's oversized headstock, and Chesterfield logo, this Guild does not disappoint. The build quality is superb, with it's ebony fingerboard and bridge. The Guild D-50 is identical during the few years the D-46 was in production. The only difference between the two guitars, was the wood being used. One with solid indian rosewood and the other with solid swamp ash. I have owned a few Guild D-50's as well as a few Guild D-46's. However, I no longer own any D-50's, but still have both my D-46 guitars. The reason is quite simple. The D-46 has a balanced tone that isn't too mellow, such as the D-50. I've also owned a few Martin D-28's, which are comparable to the Guild D-50, but still falls short of the Guild D-46. It is also important to note that I am mainly a fingerpicking guitarist, therefore a balanced and a clear tone is extremely important to me. In conclusion, the Guild D-46 is the best dreadnought guitar that I have ever played. I have owned and played countless dreadnought guitars over the last 15 years and have landed on the Guild D-46.
