mixed feelings.....
I have to agree, I have also had some mixed dealings with simon in recent times.
Getting seperated must have had an affect (sorry)
he has done a lot of work for me in the past (all good)
but I do believe he now works for ( or from ) cranes and that can or must surly detract from his once great service.
yes he has a phone, try calling him and see if he replies!

Yes the split-up with my wife did have a bit of an upheaval on the
way things were with work due to an unexpected change of address!! I am
now living with my new partner, Natasha and I am very very happy!
However, the main problem I had in the last year was the fact that, yes, I was working out of ("NOT "FOR")
Cranes in Swansea and it soon became clear that the company wanted me
to prioritise shop work over my own customers. I was constantly doing
"warranty" work and low-skill jobs for the shop and waiting weeks for
payment while my own customer work got backed up.... and as far I am
concerned, that was unaceptable.
As from 17th September 2009, I am pleased to say that I am no longer working out of Cranes and am now working exclusively from my own new workshop at my NEW ADDRESS in Waunarlwydd, Swansea and I am now turning work around in record time!
Although
I am really happy to be working independently again, I must take this
opportunity to thank Lee and all the staff at Cranes in Swansea who
have been an absolute joy to work with, for their help and support and
friendship during the time I have been there
AS for
"not answering the phone"...
My old landline number is now defunct and I can only be contacted on
the number below. BUT.. please note, I run a business, this is a
business number and you are unlikely to get an answer unless you call
between about 9am and 7pm!!! There have been people who have claimed
to have called me every day for weeks with no luck and then, when
asked, they admit that they were calling at 10.30pm or 7am!! Sorry
guys... thats family time. If it is an EMERGENCY, please leave a
message and I WILL call you back.

Simon is a very good guitar tech - he's worked on several of my guitars, with jobs including refrets, setups, pickup installs, tuner replacement and putting together a Warmoth project for me. He's also worked on several friends' instruments, including an immaculate refret of a 70s Les Paul. I've recommended him before, and have no hesitation in doing so again.

It is amazing that this person says he is unable to contact me! I have a mobile phone which is never off and it also has an answering service, the number changed some time back but this was almost two years ago... I have a workshop number which has an answering machine... I am in the Yellow Pages... all the guitar shops have my number... I have a website with all my details... I have an email address... I am even on FaceBook. This person could even have contacted me HERE!
I work on around 70 guitars a month, occasionally there will be a problem guitar which hangs around for way too long, it's inevitable. So to advise people to avoid me based on his own solitary personal experience this person is pretty blinkered. I have a couple of guitars in the workshop which have lost their contact details, one of them may be his, if this person had had the decency to leave his name with his message, I could have contacted him and returned his guitar to him!!
It is worth mentioning that I recently seperated from my wife and have relocated to Waunarlwydd. Until I finish building my new workshop, I can be found working out of Cranes Music in Swansea most days except Wednesdays (but call me first).

Simon Jones is an absolutly excellent luthier, he is a wizard sorting out guitars. i have had 2 serviced, and set-up by him, and the difference is stunning. i strongly recommend him, you won`t find anyone better.

My experience with Simon has also been excellent.
He has worked on 2 electric guitars for me and 1 for my father. He's done an excellent job on all of them. Simon is friendly and very informative on the work he has done.
I no longer live in Swansea, but I am about to get in touch with Simon to get my bass set up when I go back next.
