The Blackbird Rider is a compact, carbon fibre acoustic, which Blackbird claim sounds as good as a traditional, full-sized acoustic. Dimensions are 36" x 10.5" x 4.25" (scale length is a respectible 24.5" with 18 frets) and weight is 3 lbs. The recommended retail price (early 2008) is $1600, with an under-saddle pickup as a $140 optional extra.

Joe Luttwak and Kyle Wolfe founded Blackbird Guitars, and were later joined by Troy Stevens. Their vision was to produce a good sounding acoustic travel guitar. They use the latest tools and materials: 3D CAD , CNC laser cutters and routers, carbon-fibre, and structural foams. Their first model is the Blackbird Rider: a compact acoustic guitar with a full-bodied sound.

Ben Crowe started Crimson Guitars in 2005, after managing Scorpion Guitars Ltd.He had become disaffected by the 'mass-production work ethic' at Scorpion, and established Crimson Guitars to make one-off custom instruments, and limited production runs of ten instruments of any single design. Crimson Guitars also offer hand-made guitar parts.

Steve Wishnevsky has been an instrument maker for over thirty years. He concentrates on making simple cleanly constructed string instruments with locally harvested woods at very affordable prices. His instruments are stripped of non-essential ornamental flourishes, giving them a home-made, folk-art look.

The inspiration for this Chinese made guitar comes from the pre-world war II Martin dreadnoughts. The Blueridge BR-40 dreadnought acoustic guitar has a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back, sides, and headstock overlay.The body has 5-ply binding. The bracing pattern is said to be similar to the pre-war style used by Martin.

The Specimen Products brand was born in 1981 when student artist Ian Schneller began using the name for his sculptures. Schneller began making instruments in 1984, first for himself and then for friends; before long he was selling Specimen Products stuff to local musicians.

The Pikasso I, is a custom-made instrument created for Pat Methney by Linda Manzer. It has 42-strings and three necks. Its name is inspired by the paintings of Pablo Picasso, where multiple views of objects overlap simultaneously in the cubist style.

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation has announced that it is has aquired the Kaman Music Corportation (KMC). KMC owns Ovation Guitars, Genz Benz Amps, Hamer guitars and is the worldwide distributor of Takamine brand acoustic guitars.

Liutaio Mottola is the non-commercial enterprise of a former engineer, R.M. Mottola. Mottola started making stringed instruments in 1994 after an illness left him unable to work. Since then he has used a methodical approach to the investigatation of instrument design and construction.

Over 2,000 guitarists will attempt to break the world record for the biggest guitar ensemble today (October 26 2007) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, India. The stunt is being organised by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum as part of their Shillong autumn festival.

Retail price (late 2007) is estimated at $700.

Newly launched brand of low to mid-priced electric and acoustic guitars distributed through Guitar Center. There is limited information about them at the moment, but I am guessing from the prices that their guitars are produced in the Far East.
