The CALIFORNIAN (MODEL CAL) was produced by HAMER in the 1990s as part of their Korean made Import Series. Earlier Slammer Series Californians had mahogany bodies but these 2nd generation Import Series Californian CALs had maple bodies and one piece maple necks. In 2001 this model was replaced by the Californian Deluxe - which was identical but with boomerang fingerboard markers. A later XT Series Californian CAL was also available with two EMG humbuckers and abalone binding.
Hamer described the Californian CAL as follows in their 1999 catalog: “Woah, dude, cool axe." That‘s how most describe the Hamer Import Californian”. It gets its distinctive appearance from a scalloped solid Maple body, Maple neck, and a 27-fret Rosewood fingerboard. Its versatile sound comes from its Duncan Designed single coil humbucker pickup configuration. while its locking tremolo system keeps it in tune and its upside down output jack directs the cable through your strap. Cool indeed.
