1981

The Ibanez AW200 was introduced around 1981 as the top of the range Artwood Series dreadnought. These early 1980s AW200s were Japanese made with solid spruce tops, rosewood pickguard, solid rosewood back and sides, abalone & mother of pearl binding, ebony bridge with Tru-Tune saddle, boxwood bridge & end-pins and gold colored tuners. These early AW200s have distinctive ornate peg-head inlays.

By 2003 the AW200 was a less deluxe instrument (possibly not Japanese made?), with maple back and sides and the fancy abalone peg-head inlays had gone. This 2003 model was available in vintage violin finish as the AW200VV.

2001$409.00newI purchased my Ibanez Artwood in 2001 and as I type this it is 2020. This acoustic has served me well through many adventures and still holds it's tuning. It's survived many accidental bangs and dings, but does not show it. The only repairs it's needed were a little gluing down of the nut when it started lifting up near the high end strings and when the end pin that secures the strap started slipping out I snapped a flat toothpick to set in with it. You cannot even see anything was done and no more slipping out when I dismount! I chose this guitar over others for its warm tone as opposed to others I tried with a tinny or brassy sound. I knew my first acoustic would be an Ibanez because it's what my Dad played as I was growing up and to this day, but I really liked the unique Vintage Violin (VV) sunburst here that set it apart from his. I think I will be playing this guitar forever.
