2014 | $400 | excellent | Greg | After gigging the guitar several times in different settings (solo and jazz guitar trio) I learned I loved the feel of the instrument but it needed improvement. Then I tore it apart. I had to repair a bad factory soldering job on a tone control. I replaced the tuning keys that looked great but slipped; replaced the pickups (installed Gibson HB's I had) to gain more clarity and bottom end, and replaced the cheesey looking plastic speed nobs with a fine gold metal nob with set screw.
The bridge required shortening the saddle height adjustment screws which were in the path of the right hand playing. I then sanded the saddle flat and re-cut the string slots for a better and more even string spacing. Finally, I really cleaned up the fretboard, filled in all body holes, and re-drilled all set screws.
Now it plays great, sounds wonderful, and stays in tune. Strings are 12 to 52 DeAddarios. |
