The Martin D-18 GE (Golden Era) 1999 Special Edition was based on the 1934 D-18, and since then the D-18 Golden Era models have had the same 1934 specifications.
When introduced at the summer NAMM show in 1999 this model featured cloth reinforced mahogany back and sides, red Adirondack spruce top, scalloped braces, ebony bridge (with black pins) and fret board (with abalone dot position markers). The neck had a modified V profile and was 1.75 inches wide at the nut. The square tapered head stock had Brazilian rosewood veneer with the old style Martin decal. Machine heads were Waverly nickel units. This edition of the D-18 GE had dark tortoise shell pick guard & end piece, with fossilized ivory nut and saddle. It was finished using an aging toner. If you check the label and the underside of the top on these models you should find CF Martin IV's signature.
