The 2002 limited edition model of the Martin Eric Clapton 000-28ECB was limited to around 500 instruments. For the back and sides of this edition Martin dipped into their limited stash of precious Brazilian rosewood.
The 000-28ECB is based on the stock Martin Eric Clapton 000-28EC model which was introduced in 1996 and became one of Martin’s most popular stock models. The 000-28ECB was the third Martin Eric Clapton limited edition model (it was preceeded by the 000-42EC and the 000-42ECB).
The 000-28ECB is identical to the 000-42EC in body size and shape. The 000-42ECB has the smaller "000" body size that Clapton prefers and is popular among fingerstyle and blues guitarists who like a clear and balanced sound together with the string flexibility that the shorter 24.9" scale length allows. Made with solid woods throughout, the sides and back are constructed from solid Brazilian rosewood, and the top is bookmatched from select Sitka spruce.
The rosette is inlaid herringbone pearl, and the body is bound with grained ivoroid. The ebony fingerboard has abalone diamonds and squares bordered in mother of pearl. Eric Clapton’s signature is inlaid in mother of pearl between the 19th and 20th frets. Each 000-28ECB has an interior label, individually numbered in sequence with the edition total and personally signed by Eric Clapton and Martin Chairman and CEO C. F. Martin IV.
The 000-28ECB has a hand beveled and polished tortoise colored pickguard. Waverly nickel-plated open-geared tuning machines with vintage style "butterbean" knobs. The squared headstock bears Martin’s old-style decal logo.
