Martin J12-65M J=Martin jumbo body acoustic. M=Maple. Spec book matched flamed maple back and sides, with great depth in the wood grain and high gloss finish. Fantastic in appearance. Tight spruce top. Standard Martin mahogany neck with rosewood laminated headstock face. Tortoise body + neck binding and pick guard. Herringbone back center inlay. Gold closed Martin tuners with pearl knobs. Ebony bridge. Beautiful ebony fret board. Basic inlays. Medium neck with perfect frets. Responsive to your mood's request, ranging from a huge room filling blaze of glory, to a mellow, spiritual acoustical touchdown. Crystal clear, balanced 12 string blend of highs and lows. Great sustain. Reliability/Durability:Well built by Martin, Nazareth, PA. Bracing is solid, but responsive. Neck is strong and does not give to string pull. Heavy clear gloss finish on the body. Satin finish on the neck. The J12-65M is a little heavy. Ease of Use:Had the instrument set-up by World of Strings in Long Beach, CA. They are the "Best in the West". Action is now perfect, as is the intonation. Result = The finest 12 string I’ve ever heard or played. Overall Rating:I do not have the opportunity to try out the “best of the best” guitars ever produced. I do rely upon established players to pick and chose from Martin’s vast inventory, new and vintage. When looking for a “keeper” Martin 12 string, I researched and found Steve Howe’s choice of the Martin J12-65M as my target instrument. After years of looking, finally located and purchased a near mint J12-65M (on eBay of all places). This instrument has exceeded all expectations. Playability, tone, clarity, balance, weight, comfort, action, etc… are all outstanding. Martin…, well done! If this instrument was destroyed beyond repair, I would seek to replace it. However, that might not be possible. I also purchased a Steve Howe 00-18SH, brand new way back when... It is also a superior instrument. Also, by no accident, purchaed a Gibson ES-175 Steve Howe Signature hollow body, which is also fantastic. Coincidence???
