Taylor T5-S1 (T5 Standard 1) is an electric-acoustic hybrid. The T5-S1 is identical to the T5-S, but has a figured maple soundboard instead of spruce, creating a slightly brighter tone overall than the T5-S. The T5-S1 has a completely hollow body with f-holes. It has an active soundboard like in a fully acoustic guitar. The soundboard is a flat piece of figured maple braced into an slight arch, but the T5-S1 is not an archtop guitar. It has a tone is more like a flat-top acoustic. The T5 models use the innovative T-Lockā„¢ single bolt neck joint. Neck is mahogany with an ebony fingerboard and dot inlays. The bridge is an ebony acoustic style unit, with bone saddle and bone nut. Tuners are chrome plated. Body has multi-ply whit and black pinstripe binding.

The T5-S1 has a invisible neck humbucker, a visible bridge humbucker, and a body sensor, so it can produce tones from acoustic to crunchy electric. The T5-S1 uses all-magnetic pickups for both its electric and acoustic tones, so no piezos here. The pickups are controlled though a 5-Way switching system, these allow different combinations of the humbuckers and body sensor in series or parallel. In addition to the 5-way switch there are two active preamp/EQ tone controls and a volume control. Available in Red, Blue, Black, transparent black with Edgeburst finishes. Sunburst options are Tobacco, Cherry or Honey.

Suggested retail price was around $2000 in 2007.
