The Washburn EC36 model (also called the Spitfire I or Challenger I model depending on which catalog you look at) was introduced by WASHBURN in 1987. It was like the EC29 (with a Stephen's extended cutaway) but with a single humbucker and 36 frets. Above the 24th fret this model has compensated (thinner) fretwire to improve playability. There are some photos of EC36s (and EC29s) with monkey grips - I believe this was a factory option.

The standard finish had a crackle effect but custom order sunburst finish over figured maple top was also an option. It had a through body neck and was a high quality superstrat. The EC36 was discontinued around 1989 - with around 500 instruments made in total.
