Production of the Yamaha CPX-7 began in 1998 and ended in 2000. The CPX-7 was a Compass Series electroacoustic with a single cutaway. The CPX-7 had a floating bridge system designed to reduce unwanted noise and feedback when amplified. Its pickup was set in an adjustable steel saddle case within the bridge and saddle height could be adjusted with a coin. To add strength and stability to the system, the bridge was secured to an aluminum plate under the body top. The electronics section of the CPX-7 featured a three-band equalizer with an adjustable midrange frequency. The Mid Shape Switch offered a choice between Natural and Hard tone settings. The Hard setting boosted Mid and Low frequencies producing a powerful sound.

1998 | £370 | excellent | David Mulrine | I have had this model, which I bought at a music show, for almost 13 years and found it a worthy replacement for my Gibson Hummingbird that was stolen in a burglary at my flat. If I have any complaint it would be that I prefer to have the jack socket on the side of the bottom bout rather than at the end. Otherwise I have had nothing but pleasure from this fine instrument. |
2018 | £200 | good | Brian Dalby | Lovely guitar at the price paid |
1999 | £500 | new | ||
1999 | £500 | new | Glynn | Bought this brand new , absolutely fantastic guitar ,it’s now over twenty years old and it’s showing it’s age a little bit but nothing serious . I’ve just had the frets redone (a title bit worn) It sounds as good a new ! Beautiful instrument ! |
1999 | £270 | new | Have owned this from new for 20+ years, still sounds good today. The back and sides have developed a smoky pattern in the varnish and it's looking a bit worn but overall still a great guitar. | |
1999 | £500 | new | Purchased the guitar new and still play it daily, still gig with it, and have never had an issue. The most reliable and player friendly guitar I've ever owned. Gorgeous low action and sounds clean and bright (match made in heaven with Elixrs). Many people have enquired about the guitar as it sounds beautiful - most cant believe its a yamaha. She's getting on now, like other commenters, has developed smokey waves in the varnish. She looks very well used, but I find continues to sound better as she ages. Over the years I have been tempted many times to purchase a new Acoustic. Had the honour of playing many excellent guitars over the years - Taylor, PRS, Martins, Matons. This guitar remains my go to. |
