I have had my Alvarez now for 30 years, and I simply love it. I have three other guitars (one electric, one 12, one larger 6 that was given to me but has no label) but I always prefer my Alvarez for the action and warm tone. It rarely ever goes out of tune. I have shopped other acoustics, including some that cost 4 figures, but I can't find one that pays as well or sounds as good. I would not trade this guitar for anything.

I have owned and played my Alvarez 5047 since I bought it new in 1976, so 47 years! I have played it continually every year and hauled it around to many campfires in cold weather. This is an unbelievable guitar. Great sound, playability and durability. I have never done anything to it except to do an amateur set up by sanding the saddle down. I bought a Martin D-35 in the same year and still have it. For many years the neck has a forward bow where the neck attaches to the body. I never had a neck reset and now Martin refuses to honor my "lifetime" warranty. I have always played my Martin, in spite of high action, but my Alvarez has always been my favorite guitar. I strum hard, finger pick and play harmonica in classic folk style. My Alvarez has never let me down. I'm 74 now and my Alvarez is one of my most prized possessions.

I have this MIJ guitar in my collection since 1983. Date stamp is 16-6-76, ser no. 2694. It came with a wife :+) who got it as a student guitar. I'm amazed it still plays beautifully. The action is low and intonation is perfect as far as I can tell. Great tone and projection. I occasionally take it down from the wall and play it. I put new strings on it for the first time a couple of years ago.

Mine has been in the family for 45 years. It's been well used. Moisture and temperature extremes warped the neck beyond standard adjustment, but some brilliant bridge work kept the intonation intact, so it remained playable. The grand concert style shape has the sweetest tones, but diminished projection. Brass bridge pins, a synthetic nut and medium gauge strings solved that problem, really increasing the brightness and loudness. I do a lot of finger-style playing, and prefer relatively high action, so the brass bridge pins in particular were a revelation for me. If anything ever happened to it, I wouldn't replace it with anything but another Alvarez of the same style, set up the same way.

I found this Awsome guitar and bought it. The strings were awful so I put on some Phosphor bronze after cleaning it. All i can say is awsome Concert guitar, Alverez 5047. 40 plus years old, but WOW! Very little wear visable. Not perfect but almost.
