French luthier Jean-Yves Alquier studied classical guitar making under the supervision of master builder Thierry Jacquet in Montpelier in 1998. Alquier had previously been inspired by traditional Asian instrument makers on his international travels in the 1990s. Alquier's current work, however, owes little to the classical tradition. His guitars are ultra modern looking (in the style of Wandre and Pagelli) and have gained Alquier the title of Master Guitar Builder M.O.F. in 2015.
