The theft of his guitar in 1997 led Cory Batson to try and make his own. Using the book "Guitar making, Tradition and Technology" and measurements from his brothers Lowden acoustic he successfully completed his first instrument. He then spent the next few years researching guitars and their construction, determined to build a great guitar that was also affordable. He began to develop an idea for a "no hole" soundboard which became the basis for the current Batson acoustic models.
