Peavey introduced the Briarwood Series of acoustic and acoustic/electric guitars at Winter NAMM in 2003. These were made in China budget acoustics. Before this (up to around 2001) Briarwood Guitars was the brand name of luthier Brian Goode at the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, AZ.  Goode was graduate and staff member of the school, who specialized in designing acoustic and electric bass guitars with a scientific approach. These Brian Goode instruments are obviously in a different league to the Peavey Briarwoods.
