BSG Guitars are made by Jan Šťovíček in the Czech Republic. Šťovíček (then a mechanical engineer) built his first guitar in 1992. Jan finished his training as a luthier in 1995 and also worked as an apprentice to top Czech luthier Josef Kubla. In 1999 Jan joined forces with Pavel Bureš, another Czech luthier, and together they started BSG as a joint venture  (the abbreviation stands for Bureš Šťovíček Guitars). Initially BSG guitars were mainly exported to the USA and Switzerland but gradually they became an accepted brand name in many other countries. Pavel Bureš left BSG in 2004 but BSG still managed to expand its product range and increased production volumes. In 2004 the company was reorganized as a Czech limited liability company with Jan Šťovíček as a director.
