Information: 

Charles Fox was born in San Francisco in 1943, graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1965 and earned his Masters degree from Northwestern University in 1966. He began making guitars in 1968 and went on to gain an international reputation as a guitar maker, designer and teacher of guitar making. He pioneered the thinline acoustic guitar design and also invented guitar making devices such as the universal side bender. In 1973 Fox founded the School of the Guitar Research & Design Center in South Strafford, Vermont. During this period Charles Fox used the Guitar Research & Design (GRD) brand name, making high-end acoustic and electric guitars from 1978 until 1982. In 1993 Charles established the American School of Lutherie in Healdsburg, CA, where he also co-founded the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in 1996. By the late 1990s Charles was running CFox guitars, another workshop making high-end acoustic guitars. In 2002 Charles and his wife Denise, relocated again to Portland, Oregon, where he continues to teach and makes Ergo guitars.
