Information:

The Grammer Guitar brand was conceived in the 1960s by country musician Billy Grammer. Grammer founded the RG&G Company (Reid, Grammer & Gower) in 1965 with Clyde Reid and J.W. Gower. RG&G made the Grammer guitar from 1965 until 1968 (building approximately 1000 instruments in total). RG&G devoted their efforts into perfecting a single dreadnought acoustic model designed for flat picking and The Grammer Guitar soon earned a reputation amongst the leading country guitarists of the time The factory's Nashville location meant a steady stream of star players stopped by for a visit.

Around 1967/1968 RG&G experienced some cash flow difficulties due in part to high production costs and exacting quality control standards. The company was then sold to Ampeg. Almost immediately a fire destroyed the Grammer factory in downtown Nashville. A new modern factory was built down the street from the old one and the product line was expanded to five models. The company was renamed Grammer Guitar, Inc. (GGI). GGI produced the Grammer guitar until 1972. The factory and any remaining stock was bought in 1972 by dobroist Tut Taylor and his son Mark.

When under Ampeg ownership Grammer had an impressive list of celebrity endorsees:
