Jay (J.T.) Hargreaves has building basses and guitars since 1974. His education in instrument making started informally in 1972 with luthier Arthur Lockhart of Port Angeles, WA. Hargreaves  also studied from 1978 to 1979 at the Northwest School of Instrument Design in Seattle, WA.  Hargreaves was an apprentice and assistant of Richard Schneider from 1987 to 1997.
