Frank Hartung trained as a carpenter before starting to make guitars. Hartung was encouraged by fellow German luthier Ulrich Teuffel and in 2002 developed the unique flowing top carved waist which he still uses on many of his designs. He still works alone as a one man shop - occasionally assisted by his brother Andi.
