Londoner Paul Hathway worked in a brass foundry and then for many years as a goldsmith. A guitar player since the 1960s, Hathway developed an interest in traditional folk music which led him to start making his own trad stringed instruments like dulcimers in the late 1960s. In 1987 he left the jewerly trade and instrument making  became his full time job. Over the years he has made many different kinds of stringed instruments, for both professional and amateur musicians, mainly for folk and early music including: acoustic guitars, madolins, mandolas, bouzoukis, citterns, saz and medieval stringed instruments.
