JET guitars was founded by Jeffrey Earle Terwilliger in 1998. Jet Guitars was a one man shop in Raleigh, NC, making around 50 electric guitars per year (although he had slowed down somewhat by 2009). The standard Jet models were the Earlwood and Caldera but Terwilliger also makes one of a kind custom guitars.

By 2020 the Jet Guitars brand name was part of the Almires manufacturing group based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Almires also owns the Flight and Bumblebee Ukulele brands.
