John Liddy came to luthiery later in life, after a career as a fine furniture maker: he made his first guitar in the early 1990s for his young son who had just started to play. He began making guitars and mandolins seriously in the late 1990's and made instruments for 12 years in Mount Barker, Adelaide until his death in 2013.
