Thomas Lieber has been making guitars since 1971. In 1974 Lieber and Doug Irwin designed guitars for the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh. The next year Lieber and Irwin designed and made a custom bass for Pete Sears of Jefferson Starship. He has also made basses for Stanley Clarke and in 1980 they formed a joint venture to produce the Spellbinder bass. Since then Lieber has been developing and patenting design innovations which he uses in his range of electric and bass guitars.
