Rafael Moreno Rodriguez was born in 1954 and started making guitars at the age of 12. He learned from both Manuel Lopez Bellido and Antonio Marin Montero. He also studied with Eduardo Ferrer. After serving his years of apprenticeship, Moreno opened a shop in the Cuesta de Gomerez, in Granada, where he remained until moving to a workshop at number 10, Calle Jesus y Maria.
