Brian Calhoun and Randall Ray established Rockbridge Guitars in 2002. It was named after Rockbridge County, Virginia, where both the founders came from. Calhoun had previously worked for the Stelling Banjo Company and Ray's knowledge of vintage Martins and Gibsons informed the Rockbridge designs. Calhoun and Ray were joined in 2007 by Adam McNeil and in 2013 by Jake Hopping. The company makes high end handmade acoustic guitars in  a workshop in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia.
