Kevin Ryan was working in the California aerospace industry when in 1984 he received the book "Guitarmaking: Tradition and Technology".  Ryan's guitar making hobby eventually led to the first production model Ryan acoustic guitar, in 1987 - the Mission Grand Concert model.
