Information:

Oscar Teller was born in 1902 into a family with a long tradition of violin maker. Although his 7 brothers carried on the family tradition of violin making he studied guitar making under Ignaz Mettal, a  luthier from Schoenbach After a several more years of apprenticeship with another luthier Oscar Teller started his own workshop in 1929. In 1939, however, his work was interrupted by military service and then by deportation (as the Egerland region was now in Czechoslovakia). In 1948 he restarted his company in a new location in Bavaria with his son Horst Teller (born 1931). They began building classical guitars in a small workshop in Ohlstatt in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In 1951 the workshop was moved to a new home to Bubenreuth,  but Oscar Teller died young in 1961. His son Horst carried on the company and expanded it to become an exporter of instruments: classical guitars under the "Oscar Teller" brand and acoustic guitars under the "Tenson" brand.  In  1975 Oscar Teller's grandson joined the company after apprenticing at Hanika. Another grandson Wolfgang Teller (born 1955) joined in 1980. When Wolfgang finished his apprenticeship it was decided to move the workshop from Bubenrueth, Germany to close by Neukirchen and the shop name was changed to Wolfgang Teller Gitarren & Zithern Company. Wolfgang’s dedication to the art of his craft led him to complete his master’s examinations and later becoming Zupfinstrumentenbaumeister. He also won several Bavarian State Prizes including the gold medal at the 1989 Trade Fair in Munich.
