History of Weir Guitars

Weir Guitars is operated by Dave Weir and his son Brian in Escondido, California. They produce handmade electric guitars with several standard models.

Weir Guitars models

Their range includes the original Poorboy parlor style solid body, the Instigator, with a shorter body designed for heavier woods, the Sidekick, and the Conspirator Short Scale Bass.

Weir Guitars features and construction

Each Weir guitar is stripped down to the essentials, and the pickups are wired directly to the end pin output jack with no volume or tone controls. They are fitted with a single Weir Blueprint mini humbucker - which employ foil shielding like Filtertrons. The pickups are a tight push fit into the body route - and can be height adjusted by 2 screws from the back of the body. They use a Dead Stop Tail Piece - a big chunk of aluminum screwed down directly to the body.  The bridge is a specially milled piece of Aluminum which sits on a hardwood bridge ramp. It has a Z-shape to intonate properly. Weir guitars have a zero fret and inverted string guide arrangement - which means no nut is needed and they can have have a flat headstock angle.
