Westville Guitars was founded by Masaki Nishimura in 2013. All Westville guitars are designed by Nishimura and handmade in a guitar factory in Japan, with final setup by Nishimura himself. Masaki Nishimura's career in the musical instruments business started in 1991. In 2006 he partnered with luthier Taku Sakashta to re-launchTaku’s guitar brand “Jazz Guitar Designs”. By 2009, they had three prototype designs: “Focus Concept 1”, ”Focus Concept 2”, and “Crossover”. But in 2010, before those guitars were released, Taku was killed. Nishimua then started his own designs from scratch and in 2013 two models were ready “Butter” and “Water”. Both were hollow bodied models with solid carved spruce top and solid carved hard maple back. Since then more designs have been added to the Westville lineup including: two kinds of fully-hollow models “Aruba” and “Solar”, and also the Kurt Rosenwinkel Signature “Vanguard” series in 2016.
