Zeal Guitars was founded by Bastian Kanbach and Oliver Reich in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Kanbach trained to become a luthier from 2003 to 2006 at the BFS for instrument making in Klingenthal (Saxony). After his training he worked for 2 years in Siggi Braun’s shop in Göttingen where he was involved in the complete production process, and mostly in charge of producing custom instruments of which he completed more than 100 pieces during his time at Siggi Braun. Bastian relocated to Kaiserslauten in 2008 and soon joined forces with Oliver Reich to start Zeal Guitars. They create hand made custom guitars - typically less than 30 per year. Most are made to order but they also have a range of their own Zeal models.
