CHARVEL manufactured the 550 XL PROFESSIONAL between 1988 and 1991. The 550XL features neck through body construction. 25.5 inch scale length and a 24 fret rosewood fingerboard with white dot inlays. Black (or possibly chrome) hardware includes Floyd Rose licensed double locking vibrato, one J100 single coil pickup (at the neck) and one J90-C humbucker ( at the bridge). Controls are a single volume knob and a five-way pickup switch.

Finish options candy blue, candy red, turquoise, magenta, platinum and metallic black. The finish on the pointy headstock matches the body.

CHARVEL made the 650 XL Professional between 1988 and 1991.

The 650 XL Professional was a custom version of the 550XL. This guitar used the same active pickups and circuitry as the Classic Series 475 Special model. The additional middle position pickup further increased the tonal variations. Jackson (shark tooth) pearl inlays and a bound rosewood fingerboard further enhanced its appearance.

The 750 XL PROFESSIONAL was made between 1988 and 1989. The Charvel 750 XL Professional has a mahogany set neck with carved top body. There was also a flame maple top and back option. The bound rosewood fingeboard has inverted Jackson shark tooth inlays. Black hardware included, Schaller Floyd Rose licensed double locking vibrato (Jackson JT590) or tune-o-matic bridge with strings-though-body, two J-50BC humbucker pickups, single volume and single tone controls and a five-way pickup switch.

CHARVEL made the 850 XL Professional bass between 1988 and 1991. It had neck-through-body construction and active circuitry.
