2016$100goodGot it on Craigslist as a travel guitar. Wow it sounds great! I have a Martin 00x1AE which I don't want to fly with so this Yamaha is my new travel partner.

2016$100.00goodThe nut was chipped outside the 6th string. The finish has some obvious glazing problems. Other than that, it is a nice sounding guitar. Came with a hard shell case.

1994$250newIt was a birthday gift from the local Music Shop. At the time, I was very inexperienced, but I knew the action was too high on the one I had gotten, so I went back to the music shop to see if I could trade it for the same model guitar, but with better action. I played several of the FG400A's in the store and found one that that had excellent action and was very easy to play. I still own the same guitar some 28 years later, and to this day I have yet to find another acoustic thay plays as smoothly or sounds aas good as this one. I have played many other expensive guitars throughout the years, but my Yamaha FG400A, with all of it's nicks, dings, discolaration and cracked finish, plays better than them all. I would not sell it, but in my eyes, it is well worth at least a cool $1500 based on it's performance. The sound quality and the perfect blend between strumming and finger picking is top notch. My only wish would be to find a way to reprodue it's sound with internal amplification, though I dare not modify this beauty. Of coarse these opinions a subjective, but I know I got one of the good ones.

t was a birthday gift from the local Music Shop back in 93'. If you find one, get it. I'm amazed at the great sound. It's fun to play and it's a workhorse so you can take it anywhere and not be worried. I have a Martin I only want to use for gigs so the Yamaha is my get up and go guitar.

I bought my FG 400A in 1989 from a local music shop. It had, for a beginner, a reasonably low action and the ability to hold its state of tune for a reasonable length of time. The guitar has been with me ever since and as I have grown more capable, I still return to it because of the depth of sound, particularly on the base strings. It has stood up to a fairly robust life and has acquired a few dents and scratches along the way. What is interesting is that if I give this to someone who has not played it before they are surprised by the quality of what is essentially a budget guitar. It plays alongside my Martin jumbo well and has not suffered any problem with either the machine heads or the bridge. I would say that you need to change the strings regularly to get the best out of it. Other guitars have come and gone, but I will hang onto this one as it has virtually nil value on the second hand market and can be taken anywhere. I keep it in a Yamaha Hiscock hard case. If you can find one then take a risk - they are good for both beginner and as a "hack" for the more experienced.
