The Sigma GCS-4 was a Marquis Series Grand Concert style acoustic made in Japan in the 1970s then in Korea (1983 to 1994) and later models were made in Taiwan or Indonesia. The GCS-4 had a Martin style peghead. Laminated spruce top. Laminated mahogany back and sides. Rosewood fixed bridge. Adjustable truss rod. Unbound peghead and fretboard. 3-on-a-plate with open backed "economy" tuners.

Actually, your website is wrong. The first gcs4s were manufactured in or right around 1984. I have a gcs4, back brace stamped made in Korea, bought in '84, the first year of Korean production. Sigma was manufactured in Japan until 1983. A sigma manufactured in 1996 would have been manufactured in Indonesia, and a year or a few years later, sigma was discontinued. Just in recent years, a company called AMI has purchased the rights to the sigma guitar brand name and has restarted production, although they are horrible quality. Beg to differ, I agree with the article. I have a GCS-4 that is much older than yours, matching the ones made in Japan in the mid 70's, with a 5 digit serial number, made in Japan "purple" label, with the sideways M on the headstock and label, like the earliest Sigmas, but no zero fret, Figure it is made in the first three years, 1975 or so.
