Need Information About Gibson J180-E

My Friend has a Gibson J180-E serial# 804 M7 85  he knows very little about where he got it and less about the style. I am trying to research for him to find out value, history, he thinks its an Everly brothers model. I have tried the internet but cant seem to find anything about this particular model.

Everly Gibson J180

According to the 2009 Blue Book of guitars: the original Everly's J180 was made between 1962 and 1971. It was a jumbo style spruce top acoustic with 2 big tortoisehell (replaced by black in 1968) pickguards and maple back and sides. The rosewood fingerboard had 20 frets and pearl star inlays. There's a blackfaced headstock with a pearl star logo. Gold tuners. It came in black, natural or cherry sunburst finish.

These sell for between $3000 to $15,000 depending on the year and condition

The Everly J-180 (AC18) model was also reissued between 1994 and 1997. This was a jumbo style spruce top acoustic with 2 black pickguards. multiple stripe bound body and soundhole rosette with figured maple back and sides. The bound rosewood fingerboard has 20 frets and pearl star inlays. It had a blackfaced headstock with a pearl star logo. It had nickel tuners. It came in ebony or cherry sunburst finish and was made between 1994 and 1997.

It cost around $2000 when new, excellent condition secondhand ones should fetch around $1400 to $1700.

Does your friends one have gold or nickel tuners. Also what pickguard does it have? Do you have any photos - e-mail them to [email protected] . I checked the serial number with the reference books, but I can't find ones with any with M in the middle.

Maybe try contacting Gibson for more info?

Thank you for all the info... the serial number was wrong, its  80417585 sorry about the confusion, I called my buddy the pick guard is black and the tuning pegs seem to be bone or plastic

J 180

No problems,

as far as I can tell from that serial number, the guitar was made in 1987 in Nashville, on the 41st day of the year (some time in February) and was the 85th instrument to be stamped on that day. That date of manufacture suggests it is the regular J180 model (made between 1986 and 1991) - the Blue Book of guitars values these around $1200 to $1500 if in excellent condition.

Gibson J180

I recently found a 1987 Gibson J180 custom Everly Brothers at a Guitar shop in Chicago,I did some research and found that it was recently traded in by a Guitar Tech for a famous musician that was told to trade it in because his ex wife had kicked a hole in the front of it with her Heel. The Musician mentioned he wanted to trade in without fan fare,he had recently played in Chicago back in August.Any Idea who this might have belong to.I called Gibson Nashsville and they confirmed that the serial Nbr was in fact a custom Everly, but couldn't say anymore.I'm just glad to have gotten one,it needs ome work, but it still sounds Fantastic..
