I’m using Sketchup8 under Windows7. After downloading I
found skp_to_dxf.rb in the “plugins” section of Google Sketchup.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Running Sketchup with my object selected (a cube with a hole
in it) under “tools” I clicked on “export to DFX or STL” it asks me for the
export unit and I click ok on “inches” then it asks “export to DXF options:”
and I click ok on “STL” The stl file
locations window shows up, I fill in the file name and then when I click on the
“save as type” a window opens and there is no file type listed.
Can you spot anything I’ve done wrong?
Save as file type

You haven't done anything wrong. Its a limitation of the way Sketchup Ruby plugins work - you can't seem to add file types to the file dialogs.
Just type the full file name (plus the .stl ending) and it should work,
Please get in touch if you have any problems
