The Epiphone Hummingbird is based on the iconic 1960 Gibson Hummingbird dreadnought acoustic - named after the hummingbird decorated pickguard. It was made with cheaper woods but had the same split parallelogram fingerboard inlays, bridge and  pickguard desgin.  It had  Grover tuners and was made in China. The Chinese Hummingbird was introduced around 1995 and discontinued before 2011. Early Epi Hummingbirds may have had a 25.5 inch scale length but by 2003 the scale length was 24.75 inch (like the original Gibson model). The early models had clipped-ear headstocks and the later ones elongated headstocks.

Epiphone reintroduced their version of Gibson's Hummingbird in 2012 as the Hummingbird Pro. It  has a Shadow ePerformer pickup system and is made in Indonesia.
