The Epiphone Olympic Series was a Kalamazoo made and designed series introduced following Gibson's purchase of Epiphone. The first Epiphone Olympic designs were released in 1960 and had identical body shapes to the Gibson Les Paul single and double cutaway models, with sunburst finishes. Epiphone radically changed the Olympic body shape in 1963 making it more like the Coronet and Wilshire solid bodies. The Les Paul style Olympic double body shape was retained as the Olympic Special. In 1965 the headstocks of the Olympic Single & Double were changed to six in a row tuner layout.
All these Olympic models were made in the USA in the 1960s with the exception of the Olympic Custom which was made in Japan in the 1970s for the Japanese domestic market.

EPIPHONE OLYMPIC CUSTOMThe Epiphone Olympic Custom was made for the Japanese domestic market only. It had the Les Paul double cutaway body shape of theĀ early Epiphone Olympic Double and the Epiphone Olympic Special. The Japanese Olympic Custom had a radical German Carve around the edge of the body, no pickguard and two humbucking pickups. The Olympic Custom came with either a wraparound bridge or a tune-o-matic plus vibrato tailpiece. The pickup selector was strangely positioned directly behind the bridge such that the strings went right over the top of it on models with a vibrato tailpiece!
EPIPHONE OLYMPIC DOUBLEEPIPHONE produced the OLYMPIC DOUBLE between 1960 and 1970 - it was the two pickup version of the Olympic Single. It started out with a Les Paul style double cutaway body, tortoise shell pickguard and melody maker style headstock from 1960 until 1962. The body style was changed in 1963 to an offset double cutaway Coronet style design with a larger white pickguard. The original LP style double cutaway body was retained as the Olympic Special model from 1962 onwards.
EPIPHONE OLYMPIC SINGLEEPIPHONE produced the OLYMPIC SINGLE between 1960 and 1969. It started out with a Les Paul style single cutaway body, tortoise shell pickguard and melody maker style headstock from 1960 until 1962. The body style was changed in 1963 to an offset double cutaway Coronet style design with a larger white pickguard. In 1964, 6-on-a-side headstock was introduced and a Maestro vibrato became optional. This model was also available in a two pickup configuration as the Epiphone Olympic Double.
